TO INVITE
In cities where space is often dictated by use or commodified to encourage commercial needs, how can we challenge the way we engage with public spaces to enhance our daily lives? Drawing on principles outlined in Jan Gehl’s 1971 text Life Between Buildings, this project wishes uses large scale textile pieces to intervene with existing architecture. Stripe and the interaction of colour is played upon to encourage and invite these spaces to be enjoyed, whether that is for meeting, talking, sitting, reading or playing. Dynamic, movable structures made from contrasting translucent material encourage the eye the travel throughout the space, promoting a feeling of inclusion yet respecting a sense of privacy.
